Part of a plant cell where photosynthesis happens

Plastids are compartments of plant cells. They are responsible for photosynthesis and contain their own circular DNA. Since pollen from some species does not contain plastids, researchers believe that inserting transgenes into plastid DNA instead of the cell's nucleus may solve the problem of out-crossing.
