Documentation systems are the primary way for stakeholders and enforcement agencies to identify the GMO status of products. This research project is responsible for providing stakeholders with efficient ways of handling documentation within individual enterprises, between enterprises, and of systemising information for efficient retrieval. An emphasis is placed on providing practical options for small to medium-sized enterprises, for which documentation may present a greater challenge.
Co-Extra work on documentation begins by carrying out a critical review to assess the feasibility and relevance of the documents required for traceability. Special attention is paid to documentation requirements that are challenging particularly for farmers and for small to medium sized enterprises.
The project also takes existing information technologies and tests them out on existing supply chain models to get an idea of how various proposed information structures could work in practice. Potential economic constraints are also considered, as well as legal considerations such as enforceability.
The team has reached only preliminary, unpublished results at this stage of the project.
